Do canaries, budgies, etc. feel like they’re imprisoned, or are they so used to it that it doesn’t bother them?

That is one of my major moral dilemmas. I became vegan a few months ago and really started questioning our relationship with animals and nature, but I already had a pet bird. I have a pet rainbow lorikeet named Tango. He has a big cage, with a purple fluffy tent to sleep in, toys, a bath, and plenty of food. I take him out of his cage to play in the house. But I still feel like there is a sense of injustice, they are meant to fly free out side with the other birds. My personal conclusion is, I will no longer purchase a bird from a breeder or pet store. I will only keep one if it has been rescued. But for now since Tango was born in captivity I will look after him the best I can. But I still feel a sense of guilt for having him.

i have a bird cage but the clips that keeps the top and botton togarther were plastic and broke icant find a shop that sells them any ideas

Zip ties work GREAT!! They are cheap too!! If you are talking about a large bird (parrot) use the largest ties you can find and zip it several times. Just cut off the remaining part. If its a smaller bird, parakeet/cockatiel etc, then you can get away with smaller zip ties and fewer of them.

I wish I had zoom on my sony cybershot camera.Im thinking of buying a JVC.

we have to parrots and we clean their cages regularly..but recently it’s been giving off a ’sour’ smell and we don’t know how to get rid of it..any ideas what we can do without harming the birds?

Some people use a jet wash, the type you use to clean your car or drive, take the cage outside and give it a good spray and it will get off any caked on poo.
I use Johnson’s Clean ‘n’ Safe disinfectant cleaner, and give all of the cage a good scrub with a pan scrub, there may be some rotting food on parts of the cage you can’t see, I would take the cage apart so you can get to every bit of it and see if that works. You obviously can’t use any air fresheners or such like or you will kill the birds.
I feed my African Grey, lemons, limes and oranges with his fresh food and these leave a nice smell in his cage.

will they go after each other or avoid each other? can they play? when i put my tame parakeet on my hand and get about 2-3 feet a way from the love birds cage she flys off and i think she might be scared, none of them are making any noise wile im doing this (but they do yell back and forth to each other across the room through out the day and Every morning lol)(or at least it seems like they are talking to eachother). ive had both sets of birds for about 2 weeks also what can i use for love birds to nest? i see all kind of stuff for canary and finch nesting but not love birds or parakeet nesting. they are not ready to nest yet but i want to know for the future. also my parakeets like fruits can i also give love birds some fruits too? and yes i know about the dangerous fruits not to give birds. if you can fallow all this info please help as best as you can.

I would never allow any love birds in with any other birds you dont want to find dead. Love birds are known in the bird world as the PIT BULL of birds. They are the meanest birds ever noted in history and are known to kill all other birds if given the chance. Please dont learn the hard way by your other birds paying the price for your mistake. Love birds are even known to kill each other fighting over their own babies.
